Great cinema inspires passion, offers new perspectives, helps us discover new worlds, and connects people everywhere. This power carries both to those who sit in front of the silver screen and those who work behind the camera.

Margherita Ferri is an Italian director and screenwriter who has already won several awards, including the Biennale College Cinema in 2018 with the feature film Zen sul ghiaccio sottile (Zen in the Ice Rift). She’s part of the next generation of directors who are sharing their original views of the world in innovative ways.

During the 78th Venice International Film Festival at La Biennale di Venezia, Ferri was the recipient of a surprise Mastercard priceless experience that gave her the opportunity to discuss about the challenges cinema currently faces and get inspiration from the two-times winner of David di Donatello award and Coppa Volpi award for Best Actress at Venice Film Festival, Valeria Golino, who debuted as director in 2013.

Besides the memorable surprise, Margherita Ferri’s  day was completed with a gondola ride at sunset on the Venice canals, a chef-prepared dinner in a historic building, and finally, a glamourous walk down the red carpet.

An exceptional team accompanied Ferri in her experience: Tiziano Guardini, eco-fashion designer supported by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and winner of the first edition of the Franca Sozzani Green Carpet Fashion Award, , designed and created the outfits Ferri wore on the red carpet and during her interview with Valeria Golino. Vanity Fair writer Stefania Saltalamacchia helped Ferri prepare for the interview. And finally, a team of makeup artists, hair stylists, and a personal stylist from Vanity Fair helped Ferri look great on the big day.

Tiziano Guardini outfits for Margherita Ferri

The feature film Zen sul ghiaccio sottile (Zen in the Ice Rift), directed by Margherita Ferri, inspired the eco-fashion designer Tiziano Guardini to create her outfits. The protagonists of the feature film are painted on the T-shirt worn by Margherita during the interview, a tribute to love, inclusiveness and freedom of expression. The dress worn for the red carpet is made of vintage silk from the 70s, recovered from a warehouse and made sustainably.
